I am not more than human

A knitted tube Philip made attempts to create a connection from himself to “the other.” He explored this through pen‑and‑ink drawings and photographs made in Svalbard, the northernmost settlement in the world.

The photographs show failed attempts at a connection, the animals entirely unbothered. The only successful connection between himself and an animal emerged through drawing. Those drawings echo early mythical Arctic etchings, imagined glimpses of the North before we ever truly saw it.

Looking back on the project, Kanwischer is planning to continue exploring this idea, turning the focus toward himself as the central subject.
